The Service

Is Hilaros really free for 2 months?
Yes — the free plan includes one topic at no cost for your first 2 months. No credit card required to start. After 2 months, continue with Basic ($3/mo) or cancel anytime.
How does it work?
Pick a topic, create a free account, and confirm your email address. Starting the next morning, one KJV Bible verse arrives in your inbox at approximately 7 AM in your local timezone. That's it.
What topics can I choose from?
There are 130+ topics across six categories: emotions (anxiety, grief, loneliness), relationships (marriage, forgiveness, friendship), spiritual growth (faith, prayer, obedience), life situations (work, loss, illness), character (courage, humility, integrity), and identity (who you are in Christ). New topics are added regularly.
Can I change my topic?
Yes, at any time from your dashboard. Free accounts can hold one active topic — switching replaces the current one. Basic and Pro subscribers can run multiple topics simultaneously.
What time does my verse arrive?
Verses are delivered at approximately 7 AM in your local timezone. Delivery may vary by a few minutes depending on email provider queues, but we target early morning so the verse is there when your day begins.
Do you send anything besides the daily verse?
No marketing emails, ever. The only other emails you will receive are transactional: your welcome message when you sign up, and billing receipts if you upgrade to a paid plan. That's the full list.

Scripture & Content

Why KJV and not NIV or ESV?
The King James Version was completed in 1611 from the original Hebrew and Greek, and has been the most widely memorized translation for over 400 years. The language is elevated, precise, and poetic in a way modern translations rarely match. It is also public domain, which means no licensing fees — ever.
Who is Spurgeon?
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834–1892) was known as the Prince of Preachers. He preached to 10,000 people weekly in Victorian London without a microphone. His commentary is practical and warm — written for people in real trouble, not academic conferences. His works are public domain and available on Basic and Pro plans.
Are the theological notes your own writing?
Yes. The notes labeled as Hilaros commentary are original content written by our team. Spurgeon's commentary, labeled clearly, is reproduced from his public domain works. We never mix the two without attribution.
What are the "What Most Readers Miss" sections?
These are deep-study notes available on the Pro plan. They go beyond surface meaning into original Hebrew and Greek word choices, historical and cultural context, and structural patterns in the text that are easy to overlook in English. Think of them as footnotes written for serious readers.

Billing & Account

What's the difference between Basic and Pro?
The free plan gives you one topic with the daily verse. Basic ($5/month) gives you up to five topics plus Spurgeon's commentary alongside each verse. Pro ($10/month) adds unlimited topics, original Greek and Hebrew study notes, and priority delivery. All plans include the same KJV translation.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes — cancel from your dashboard at any time with no cancellation fee. Your paid access continues until the end of the current billing period. After that, your account reverts to the free plan automatically.
Is there a free trial?
The free plan gives you 2 months at no cost — no credit card required. Paid plans also include a 7-day free trial. No charge until the trial period ends, and you can cancel before the trial is up without being billed.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings → Delete Account. Your personal data — email, topic preferences, and account history — will be removed within 30 days. Billing records required by law (typically 7 years) are retained by Stripe, not our database.
Do you store my credit card?
No. All payment processing is handled by Stripe. Hilaros never receives or stores your card number, CVV, or any other payment credentials. Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of payment security available.
